Interview Information

The Interview Process

Candidates are invited to interview after their ERAS application is reviewed by the Selection Committee. Our selection process is competitive, and we participate in both the AOA and the NRMP matches.

Our interview season typically commences towards the end of September and is completed by the beginning of February. We schedule interviews twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays.

Getting to Maine

We recommend flying into Portland, Maine which is the closest major airport. However, Manchester NH, Bangor ME, and Boston MA are also options. A rental car can be reserved at any of these airports.

Accommodations

When your interview is scheduled, we will book a room for you at the Civic Center Comfort Inn in Augusta and send you the confirmation number so you can contact the hotel and verify your reservation. When you check in, hotel staff will provide you with a packet containing a number of helpful resources for your visit. There is a dinner with Maine-Dartmouth residents the evening before your interview. A resident representative will meet you in the lobby of the hotel and drive you to and from dinner.

Transportation on Interview Day

Candidates will need their own transportation to the hotel and to the interview. Please keep in mind that Maine is a largely rural state, with public transportation limited to only the most metropolitan parts (and Augusta is not one of those, despite being the state capital!). Additionally, Maine’s unpredictable winter weather should be taken into consideration when making travel arrangements. Once you reach the first meeting location, a tour guide will be available to transport you to each of our training sites.

Interview Day

The interview day begins at the Family Medicine Institute at 8:00 AM and runs until approximately 2:30 PM (depending on Maine’s weather). Please see the sample interview schedule for an idea of what to expect.

You will have a chance to see our practice sites and tour our regional hospital.
