Please join us in congratulating Alane O’Connor DNP and Nate Bowling MD for the recent publication of their article Initial management of incarcerated pregnant women with opioid use disorder in the Journal of Correctional Health Care. In Dr. O’Connor’s words, “this document represents a system-wide effort to create an evidence based treatment protocol for a highly vulnerable patient population. There are many complex issues for pregnant women in the custody of law enforcement but they maintain their medical decision making autonomy and they deserve to be treated with dignity, compassion and respect.” Drs. O’Connor and Bowling acknowledge the efforts of the many members of the MaineGeneral Medical Center community who participated in this important work.
