Interview Information

Interviews will be conducted virtually for the 2023-24 recruitment season.

The Interview Process

MDFMR’s Geriatric Medicine Fellowship participates in the NRMP match process and invites candidates to submit their application through ERAS. Non-traditional candidates are invited to apply by contacting the fellowship’s program coordinator for information about the process. All applications are reviewed by the program director. Our interview season typically commences in September and interview scheduling is somewhat flexible.

Accommodations

When your interview is scheduled, we will reserve a room for you at the Civic Center Comfort Inn in Augusta and send you the confirmation number so you can contact the hotel and verify your reservation. This one-night stay is at the fellowship’s expense and includes a hot continental breakfast. Any additional nights and incidentals are at the candidate’s expense. A dinner is scheduled the night before your interview (or day of, depending on travel arrangements) to give you an opportunity to get to know the faculty and current fellows.

Getting to Maine

We recommend flying into Portland, Maine which is the closest major airport. However, Manchester NH, Bangor ME, and Boston MA are also options. A rental car can be reserved at any of these airports.

Transportation on Interview Day

Candidates will need their own transportation to the hotel and to the first interview location. Transportation to the other sites on interview day will be provided. Please keep in mind that Maine is a largely rural state, with public transportation limited to only the most metropolitan parts (and Augusta is not one of those, despite being the state capital!).

Interview Day

The interview day typically begins at the Family Medicine Institute in Augusta with introductions and an overview of the program. You will be able to meet the faculty and current fellows, join a Geriatric Assessment Team meeting, and participate in tours of the practice sites, including the family medicine outpatient center, the regional hospital, and a rehabilitation and long-term care facility. The interview day typically starts at 8:30 am and ends at approximately 4:00 pm.
