Dr. Alyssa Finn was born and raised in Massachusetts and has a bachelor’s degree in religion with a minor in Spanish from Middlebury College in Vermont. They later studied clinical nutrition and dietetics as well as completed a pre-med post baccalaureate at New York University. They went to medical school at University of Massachusetts in Worcester, MA, and earned their MD in 2013. In their final year of medical school, Dr. Finn did an integrative medicine elective rotation in Tucson, AZ, which was transformative and fueled their subsequent journey into more expansive and comprehensive ways of healing outside of conventional Western medicine. Dr. Finn completed residency training in family medicine at The Institute for Family Health in NYC, and then stayed there for a 1 year fellowship in integrative medicine. During their fellowship, Dr. Finn completed a 100 hour training program in clinical hypnosis through New York Milton H. Erickson Society for Psychotherapy and Hypnosis. They continue to use hypnotherapy and mindfulness as important tools for helping patients heal in the primary care setting. In addition to integrative medicine and mind body medicine, Dr. Finn loves to practice true preventive and lifestyle medicine, helping patients to eat more healthfully, learn how to cook healthful and delicious foods, exercise, get good restorative sleep, and work on ways to decrease stress. Dr. Finn facilitates shared medical appointments where they cook with their patients in a teaching kitchen. They are also passionate about reproductive health and addiction medicine.
After residency and fellowship, Dr. Finn worked for about 4 years at a primary care practice in Brunswick, Maine and then joined the faculty of Maine-Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency as the Director of Integrative Medicine. Dr. Finn enjoys the many hats they wear at their job. They see patients, precept residents, teach formal didactics, and of course serve on committees!
Dr. Finn lives in Bath, Maine and enjoys being outside, exploring the natural world — in the woods and on the water. They loves cooking, baking, music making and listening, dancing, reading, and playing with their spouse and two children.
