Experiencing firsthand the challenges and rewards of caring for older adults sparked Dr. Carlen Smith’s interest in pursuing advanced training in geriatric medicine. Carlen earned a bachelor of science in biomedical sciences from Western Michigan University and completed medical school at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, MI. She chose to train in family medicine and served as co-chief resident in her final year of residency at the University of Vermont Medical Center before completing fellowship in Maine.
