Nathan R. Harmon, DO

Medical School: University of New England – College of Osteopathic Medicine
Family Medicine Residency: Maine-Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency
Geriatric Medicine Fellowship: Maine-Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency
Palliative Medicine Fellowship: Maine Medical Center

After graduating from college, Nate completed a degree in paramedicine. He spent several years working as a licensed paramedic in Maine prior to attending medical school at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. He finished his family medicine residency at Maine-Dartmouth, then went on to complete the geriatric medicine fellowship. Following the fellowship Nate worked in inpatient medicine and in long-term care and rehabilitative medicine, providing direct patient care, geriatric consultative care, and medical leadership. His work in the long-term care setting made him realize what a critical difference palliative medicine made in quality of life for older patients and their families. He decided he could be a much more effective geriatrician with specialized training in palliative medicine and forged ahead to complete a palliative medicine fellowship at Maine Medical Center in June of 2014.

Armed with more tools for even better elder care, Nate took on the challenge of medical director for inpatient geriatric medicine at MaineGeneral Medical Center. In this role he coordinates and performs inpatient geriatric evaluations and consultations, provides leadership for excellence in geriatric care within MaineGeneral, and helps fellows perfect their developing consultative skills.

Nate is board-certified in family medicine, hospice/palliative medicine, and geriatric medicine, and is a physician member of the American Geriatrics Society. In his spare time, Nate enjoys jogging, kayaking, hiking, snowshoeing and bicycling, and spending time with his wife, Kelley, and their two adorable red-headed sons, Lucas and Jacob.
