Kate Barus was born in Vermont and raised in Central Maine. She completed her undergraduate training in Biology at Colby College and went on to medical school at UNE-COM. During her pre-clinical years Kate served as a teaching assistant and a student mentor; she also traveled to DC for the 2007 DO Day on the Hill, meeting with the Maine congressional delegation on behalf of UNE and FAME.

For the past 6 years she has been an active volunteer with Partners in Health of Maine, an organization that promotes health in Nicaragua. She independently completed a needs assessment around women’s health and gynecologic cancer screening which informed a successful grant application to fund infrastructure and services for PIHOM. Kate currently lives in Winthrop with her yellow lab Cruiser; outside of medicine she enjoys travel, outdoor activities, and art. Kate is co-chief resident.
