EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR/PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Maine-Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency (MDFMR) is seeking a collaborative, forward-thinking leader to further its mission of educating physicians for a lifetime of competent, compassionate, and personally satisfying practice. The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of a sizeable not-for-profit organization, uniquely structured as its own graduate medical education Sponsoring Institution. Additionally, this individual serves as Program Director of a longstanding, highly successful ACGME-accredited 10-10-10 family medicine residency with osteopathic recognition which prepares physicians for full-spectrum family medicine practice, emphasizing care for rural and underserved populations. The Executive Director is well-supported by an effective leadership team and an engaged, passionate teaching faculty. In addition to the core residency, MDFMR operates thriving accredited one-year programs in geriatric medicine, sports medicine, and osteopathic neuromusculoskeletal medicine (ONMM) and is highly-regarded as a pre-doctoral clinical training site; all programs are unopposed and community-based. We benefit from established ties to the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, Tufts University School of Medicine, and our affiliated hospital system, MaineGeneral Health. Responsibilities: The Executive Director reports directly to MDFMR’s Board of Directors. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Furthering our organization’s mission and values on local, state, and national levels
  • Collaborating with the BOD in strategic planning and leading the organization’s efforts to achieve strategic goals
  • Partnering with leaders of our affiliated hospital system to administer GME and pre-doctoral education programs
  • Supervising family medicine faculty and fellowship directors
  • Overseeing clinical and administrative operations for both the organization and the six outpatient practices it manages (3 family medicine practices, a dermatology practice, a neuromusculoskeletal medicine practice, and a geriatric medicine practice)
  • Administering and managing a core family medicine residency program; maintaining continued accreditation
  • Executing the duties of Designated Institutional Official as prescribed by the ACGME
  • Maintaining an active role in teaching and clinical practice

Qualifications: Minimum qualifications are an MD or DO, ABFM-certified in family medicine, eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in Maine, at least five years of clinical family medicine practice, and at least two years of experience as a core faculty member in an ACGME-accredited family medicine residency. Previous leadership experience in health care systems or GME is a must. Desired characteristics include outstanding interpersonal, communication, clinical, and administrative skills; ability to manage and lead; understanding of finance and budgeting; a passion for teaching.

Location: MDMFR is based in Augusta, Maine with Waterville and Fairfield practice sites within a 25 mile radius. Augusta is the capital city of Maine and home to MaineGeneral Medical Center’s Alfond Center for Health, our state-of-the-art community hospital. Maine’s rugged coastline, serene lakes, and spectacular mountains, as well as the cities of Portland and Boston, are easily accessible. Maine-Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency has created a faculty opening for an allopathic or osteopathic board-certified or board-eligible physician with strong clinical skills and a passion for teaching. This position is based in our Waterville practice (Maine Dartmouth Family Practice) and encompasses a combination of direct clinical care, teaching, curricular development, and administrative work. The ideal candidate is a compassionate physician and enthusiastic teacher committed to high quality patient care. Willingness to practice full spectrum outpatient and inpatient family medicine (including obstetrics) is a plus, but we will consider strong candidates who practice only outpatient care.

FACULTY PHYSICIAN – Osteopathic NMM Plus One Program

At the Maine-Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency you will find a close-knit community of allopathic and osteopathic physicians who love to teach. We are seeking an NMM-certified osteopathic physician, also boarded in family medicine or internal medicine, with comprehensive skills in direct and indirect manipulative techniques and a passion for teaching to join our Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine (ONMM) Plus One faculty. This position combines clinical work with protected time for teaching and research. Our unique collaborative care center blends osteopathy, behavioral health, and integrative medicine for a holistic and patient-centered approach to care. FACULTY HOSPITALIST – Family Medicine Residency

Maine-Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency is looking for an allopathic or osteopathic board-certified or board-eligible family practice hospitalist to lead and direct inpatient training for family medicine residents. The position is based at MaineGeneral Medical Center’s Alfond Center for Health, a new state-of-the-art hospital in Augusta, ME. Our faculty hospitalist will enjoy remarkable support from local medical providers, a reasonable inpatient volume that allows significant time for teaching, and a bond with a caring, patient-centered residency community.
