Barbara Steinbrecher, DO

After earning her BS degree in biology at the University of New Hampshire Barb worked in the biotech industry in the field of molecular biology research. She provided technical support in the development of technologies for DNA, RNA and protein research. Barb collaborated with many of the labs that eventually developed the Western blot assay; and advanced the field of RNA research. She went on to diagnostic assay development working with first generation in-office testing. In the early 90’s she worked with a team that developed a computer integrated serum allergy testing system that generated immunotherapy treatment protocols. Barb traveled nationwide installing and training medical staff on the use of these systems. Instead of relocation with her company she chose to apply to medical school; a life long goal. Barb attended the University of New England and then completed her training at the Maine- Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency. Barb returned to MDFMR after 10 years in private practice to focus on geriatrics.
