Cory Ingram, MD
B.A, Central College, Pella, IowaM.S., Leiden University, Leiden Holland
M.D. Leiden University, Leiden Holland
Family Medicine Residency, University of Nebraska Rural Training Track Scottsbluff
Born in Cresco, Iowa, Cory grew up in rural Iowa and attended a local liberal arts college founded by Dutch settlers. The historical connection resulted in the completion of his B.A. at the study abroad campus in Leiden, Holland. It is there he met his lovely wife Lilian. While at Central College, Cory got his first direct exposure to patient care as a CNA in a local nursing home and Alzheimer’s unit. He continued his CNA work as a volunteer during his exchange program in Holland. Upon completion of his B.A., he completed the remaining pre-medical requirements at the University of Iowa while Lilian continued to work on her masters at Leiden, University. A year and a half later, Cory had completed his pre-medical requirements and Lilian filled in his Dutch Medical School application due to his inability to even read it. After completing mandatory and intensive Dutch Language courses between January and June of 1994, Cory matriculated into the 2000 graduating class of Leiden University Medical School in September 1994. During medical school in Leiden, Cory was Editor of the Predoctor student medical journal, President of the Sir Alexander Fleming Medical Society, and was active in research. During medical school he completed rotations and research projects at Mayo Clinic, The University of Colorado and The University of Nebraska. He published numerous articles in international journals and presented research results in Leiden, Dublin, Fort Lauderdale and Kansas City. The day after graduation from medical school Cory and Lilian married in Holland. Shortly thereafter, Cory started and completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Bronovo Hospital in The Hague, Holland. Upon completion of the internship, Cory returned to the United States to secure a residency position at the University of Nebraska Rural Training Track in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. A year later Lilian immigrated to the high plains of western Nebraska. Their daughter Lauren was delivered in January of 2004 by her mom and dad in Scottsbluff. As a volunteer Cory taught elementary students in Rochester, Minnesota through the Doctor’s Ought to Care program at Mayo Clinic, presented Geriatric Public Health Fair Lectures in Scottsbluff, and participated in the Husker Harvester Days Pulmonary Evaluation for Farmers and Ranchers. From the fields of Iowa to the canals of Holland to the high plains of Western Nebraska to the rolling hills, lakes, rivers and coast of Maine, Cory, Lilian and Lauren are feeling right at home at MDFPR. As a geriatric fellow, Cory is looking forward to focusing on the care of the elderly and specifically on the comprehensive evaluation and treatment of patients with dementia. His practice site is MDFP.
Cheryl Seymour, MD
Dartmouth Medical SchoolGreater Lawrence Family Medicine Residency, Massachusetts
Cheryl has been smitten with the ideal of rural family practice since childhood, raising sheep on a small family farm in central Maryland and watching “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman” on TV. In college, she studied biomedical engineering and learned about the applications of telemedicine technology to improve care in underserved areas across the country. Cheryl became a founding member of the Rural Health Scholars program at Dartmouth Medical School which allowed her the opportunity to intern with “real” rural family doctors in New England and abroad. Cheryl first came to Maine-Dartmouth for her third-year family medicine cores, read “The Heirs of General Practice” and has never felt more at home since. She completed residency in Lawrence, Massachusetts where her patients tried hard to teach her Spanish and salsa dancing as well as the requisite medicine and obstetrics. Cheryl returned to Maine-Dartmouth, graduating from our geriatrics fellowship in 2004. Now in addition to full-spectrum clinical practice, her work in the residency community includes volunteering and precepting with the Maine Migrant Health Association and coordinating residency recruitment efforts. Outside of medicine, she enjoys singing in a community chorale and exploring the outdoors with her partner and their two irrepressible puppies.
