I’ve been told that you can usually hear me before you see me…. that infectious, belly laugh of mine always gives me away! Having been blessed with a quick, dry wit, I’m usually able to make those around me laugh (or at least smile). Sharing laughter with a patient seems to link us as just two human beings and can allow the tension or angst present in an exam room to exit more quickly.
I’d been bitten by the teaching bug back in 1996 and worked at both the CMMC and EMMC FP Residencies before working as a preceptor for Maine-Dartmouth, primarily at the FMI, from 2001 to 2003. My journey back to MDFPR took me by way of a small town in Colorado called Durango. Sitting on the banks of the Animas River, Durango was a place of great joy (birth of my son, Nate) and of great sorrow (closing of my holistic, solo practice). Having also been a place of deep healing, I’ll carry its memories in my heart for a life time. I’m happy to join the faculty now at Maine Dartmouth.
Outside of work, I relish time spent with Nate exploring Maine’s hiking and biking trails as well as keeping our two golden retrievers entertained. I also enjoy writing in many forms – short comedy monologs (one that was performed in NYC!) and a very rough draft of a screenplay have been put aside so that I can continue to work as a co-author on a book about the struggle to find and honor your voice inside and the lessons learned along the way.
