Nate grew up in Maine and cites strong family support as instrumental in his decision to pursue a career in medicine. After high school, he became a paramedic and then pursued a degree in Biochemistry at the University of Maine in Orono. He continued work as an EMT in towns throughout Maine, managing not only patient care but also quality assurance and team training. Nate subsequently attended medical school at UNE, where he volunteered in a local free clinic and coordinated an emergency medicine research project around pre-hospital assessment of spinal injuries. Nate graduated from Maine-Dartmouth in 2008, and went on to complete our Geriatric Fellowship in 2009. Outside of medicine, Nate enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons, as well as hiking, camping and kayaking in the Maine outdoors.
