I was born near San Francisco and migrated to Boston at age seven following the path of my flute playing scientist parents. I grew up surrounded by academic physicians, musicians, Unitarians and self-proclaimed "folk geeks." After flirting with the more standard life offered by traditional colleges, I went to Oberlin to continue hanging out with creative brilliant people, and play in orchestras while sneaking in a major in biology. In keeping with taking the alternate route and with family tradition, I attended the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, graduating in 1997. While there I developed a fascination with osteopathic manipulative medicine and its integration into general medical care. I attended Maine-Dartmouth from 1997 to 2000 where this interest was encouraged and, after a year in group practice, came back as the Director of Osteopathic Medical Education. In 2008, I passed this torch to Barbara Moss, DO in order to put full attention into developing and directing the NMM+1 program. As part of that, we are excited to be embarking on a new model of practice which included NMM, physical therapy, psychology, social work, acupuncture and martial arts under one roof. We hope to use this as a primary care model in the future.
I came to Maine-Dartmouth as a resident because of the variety and dedication of the faculty and residents, and returned for the same reason. Maine-Dartmouth is a model not only service to the underserved, but for the development of the physician as a whole and varied person.
