James Schneid, MD Welcome to the Maine Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency. This academic year I will have completed my 28th year as faculty in the organization. My current role of CEO/Chair allows me to spend more time on strategic planning. Currently we are working on plans for a new Regional Medical Center along the I-95 corridor adjacent to our new $50 million dollar Alfond Cancer Center. Everyone is excited about the possibility of a new hospital in approximately four years.

It will be important to represent medical education and primary care in the new facility. We are making sure that there will be learning labs, appropriate conference space, call rooms and staff so that our organization will continue to be a wonderful place to train in rural Family Medicine.

On a personal note I am spending a lot more time with playing the accordion as a way to unwind from Medicine. I have purchased two new/”used” accordions this year and play once or twice a week with groups in the area. Occasionally I’ve been known to spend my lunch hour in the lobby of the hospital with my “stuffed” monkey and a can, seeking donations for the volunteer office. Most people donate with the hopes that I will stop playing.

Central Maine continues to be a wonderful place to work and grow. We hope that you too will visit and stay. Jim Schneid MD
