Harry Colt, MD
Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine
University of Virginia Family Practice Residency, Charlottesville
Harry became the Program Director in 2007.
Harry attended Harvard College and Case Western Reserve Medical School. At that time, Case was a militant hotbed of family medicine enthusiasts and Harry spent summers coordinating health fairs in rural Kentucky and Southern Ohio, which helped confirm his commitment to rural family medicine. After a year of work and travel, Harry moved to Charlottesville, Virginia for residency and chief residency. On graduation, he worked with the Indian Health Service in Zuni, New Mexico, where his residency training was balanced by practical experience. After four years, Harry moved to McFarland, Wisconsin, where he practiced the broad spectrum of family medicine.
In 1995, he joined the Maine-Dartmouth faculty. “I had planned to interview for faculty positions at programs across the country. However, once Sandy and I came to central Maine and looked at Maine-Dartmouth, we decided we didn’t need to look anywhere else. I was particularly impressed by several features of the residency: the diversity of the faculty and residents, the commitment to the underserved, and the sense of community and support for each other. Fifteen years later, the faculty, the residents and staff still teach me a lot and the community continues to nourish me.”
Harry lives on 35 acres with his partner, Sandy, and various horses, chickens, rabbits, and dogs. His interests include organic gardening (fruits, vegetables, and brambles), swimming, biking and cross country skiing. Professionally, he remains a determined generalist, with particular interests in pediatrics, practice management, and of course, residency training.
