MPH, University of Washington
Dan served as Program Director from 1985 – 2002, he is now Director Emeritus.
After graduating from Harvard Medical School and living in Boston for eight years, Dan ran away to the West Coast and trained in Internal Medicine. During his time there, family practice was being invented and he became fascinated with primary care's rejuvenation. He returned to practice primary care in Farmington, Maine for 10 years, then joined the faculty at Maine Dartmouth Family Practice Residency, becoming the director in 1985. He now continues to precept at the FMI and work with the geriatric fellows and residents seeing consults several days a week.
Dan explains, "I enjoy the challenge of front line medicine, not knowing what is coming through the door next, and teaching that art. I never can remember everything I should, and therefore maintain my medical textbook as an ancillary brain. And I enjoy helping residents and other faculty identify worthy topics to write up and publish." On the side, Dan likes to fly fish, log and cross country ski, to name just a few of his varied interests.
