Kathryn Barus
University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine
Kate Barus was born in Vermont and raised in Central Maine. She completed her undergraduate training in Biology at Colby College and went on to medical school at UNE-COM. During her pre-clinical years Kate served as a teaching assistant and a student mentor; she also traveled to DC for the 2007 DO Day on the Hill, meeting with the Maine congressional delegation on behalf of UNE and FAME. For the past 6 years she has been an active volunteer with Partners in Health of Maine, an organization that promotes health in Nicaragua. She independently completed a needs assessment around women’s health and gynecologic cancer screening which informed a successful grant application to fund infrastructure and services for PIHOM. Kate currently lives in Leeds with her partner; outside of medicine she enjoys travel, a variety of outdoor activities, pottery, photography and equestrian care and riding.
Jason Brown
Saba University School of Medicine
Jason Brown comes to us from Canada. He completed his undergraduate studies in Biology at Acadia University in Nova Scotia graduating in 2004. Jason then worked as a tree planter in British Columbia, a Little League baseball coach and a fitness trainer before entering Saba University. While at Saba, he served as an anatomy and biochemistry teaching assistant and participated in health screenings on the island; Jason graduated in 2008. Since that time he has been working as a pharmacy technician and as a research assistant in a clinical trial of a new medicine for Alzheimer’s. He has volunteer experience in nursing homes and with special needs children. Outside of medicine, he enjoys team sports, music (harmonica and guitar), cooking, travel, and surfing.
Vikram Butani
Ross University School of Medicine
Vikram Butani also hails from Canada. He completed his undergraduate training in Biology at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, graduating in 2004. After gaining work experience as a lab technician in a beer brewery and as a pharmacy technician, he entered medical school at Ross University where he is currently a fourth year student. While completing his pre-clinical years at Ross, he served as class representative and as an anatomy teaching assistant; Vikram also volunteered in free clinics and health screenings in the local community. His interests outside of medicine include long distance biking and running as well as swimming. In addition to English he is fluent in Swedish.
Jose Donatien
Universite D’Etat D’Haiti
Jose Donatien was born in Haiti and comes to us from Florida. He completed his medical training at the State University of Haiti, graduating in 1999. Jose then went on to complete a three year family medicine residency and subsequently worked for two years as an attending family physician managing a rural hospital and clinic in Gros-Morne, Haiti. After moving to the United States, he has worked as an admissions coordinator in a mental health hospital and as an instructor of physical exam skills for medical students from the American University of Antigua in Miami. Jose has also completed observerships in family medicine and psychiatry. Outside of medicine he enjoys spending time with his family, watching movies, and participating in church activities.
AJ Eckert
Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine
AJ Eckert comes to us from California. She completed her undergraduate studies in Forensic Science at the University of Connecticut in 2004. After work as a pathology intern and a pharmacy technician, she entered medical school at Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine. AJ has been an active member of the Integrative Medicine Club and served as President of Touro’s Gay Straight Alliance. She participated in an AMSA/GLMA leadership conference and volunteered with her school’s local student osteopathic clinic. Outside of medicine, she enjoys playing piano, reading, hiking, rock-climbing and karate. In addition to English she is fluent in Czech.
Eric Ehle
University of North Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine
Eric Ehle comes to us from Texas. He completed his undergraduate degree in Nutritional Sciences at Texas A&M and then proceeded to medical school at the University of North Texas COM. He has past work experience as an EMT and a chiropractic assistant prior to entering medical school. As a medical student, he volunteered in multiple community health fairs and sports physical clinics. Eric also worked as an OMM teaching assistant and served as president of the Complementary and Alternative Medicine Club. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with family, soccer, church, photography, running and biking.
Catherine Feaga
West Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine
Catherine Clark Feaga was born in Maryland. She received her B.A. in Philosophy with a German minor from Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania. Her thesis used interpretations of the Tao Te Ching to discuss duality and Enlightenment. Catherine worked for six years as a sales and customer service manager for a homeopathic medicine manufacturing pharmacy, during which time she completed pre-medical coursework at Shepherd University. She then spent three months working with osteopaths and homeopaths in Germany before she matriculated at West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. While at WVSOM, she was active in UAAO, SOMA, the integrative medicine group, and co-founded a chapter of Medical Students for Choice. Catherine worked as a student editor and writer for the UNC textbook "Essentials of Family Medicine," volunteered in women's health screening clinics, and participated in medical relief trips to the Dominican Republic and India. Through a SOMA scholarship, she spent two months in the Alaskan interior during her fourth year, and would like to return as a locums in the future. In her spare time, she enjoys trail running, mountain biking, vegan cooking, playing music and traveling with her husband.
Cassandra Generlette
Saba University School of Medicine
Cassy Generlette was born in Guadalupe. She completed her undergraduate studies in Biochemistry at the Florida Institute of Technology in 2003. Cassandra gained work experience as a hospital volunteer and a lab technician prior to entering medical school at Saba University. She completed her core clerkships primarily in the Bronx, New York, graduating from medical school in January of 2009. She worked as a medical assistant in her own family medicine practice in St. Maarten. In her spare time she enjoys painting, reading, gardening and cooking.
Anca Sisu
Universitatea de Medicina Si Farmacie Carol Davila
Anca Sisu was born in Romania and most recently lived in Seattle, Washington. She completed her undergraduate, nursing and medical studies in Romania, graduating in 2002. Anca then completed eight months of a family medicine residency in Bucharest before moving to the United States. She worked as an RN in the Seattle area for five years and has also completed an observership in primary care. Anca practices Reiki and has a strong interest in holistic and integrative medicine. Anca has taken classes in Ayurvedic medicine and had the opportunity to work with two integrative medicine physicians in Seattle before coming to MDFMR. In her spare time she enjoys playing chess, skiing, practicing yoga and spending time with her family.
Dashiell Slabbert
Ross University School of Medicine
Dash Slabbert was born in Capetown, South Africa and lives in Falmouth, Maine. He completed his undergraduate studies in Biology at the American International College in Massachusetts and went on to medical school at Ross University. Dash completed the majority of his clinical rotations at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. Outside of medicine, he has a particular interest in philosophy and music as well as chess and reading.
