Inna Andrews
State Medical & Pharmaceutical University Nicolae Testemitanu
Inna is originally from the Republic of Moldova and most recently lived in Fort Collins, Colorado. She completed her undergraduate and medical studies in Moldova followed by an additional year of training in Cardiology. She then practiced for 6 years as a cardiologist and intensivist prior to moving to this country. She then took time off from medicine to raise her daughter and become an active member of the Fort Collins community. Before coming to MDFMR, Inna completed several observerships in primary care and pediatrics. Her interests outside of medicine include ice-skating, gardening, reading and hiking.
Isabella Askari
West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine
Isabella was born in Wellesley, MA and completed her undergraduate studies in French and Spanish at Wellesley College. After college, she was a Paramedic/Firefighter at a rescue squad in Virginia for 5 years. She trained in CISM (Critical Incident Stress Management) and helped run the county’s team, sending a fire truck to the pentagon and a strike team to NYC after 9/11. She then completed her MPH in International Public Health at George Washington University. It was there that she and co-authored a qualitative research study entitled “Barriers to Care for Diabetes Among the Transiently-Homeless African American Population in Washington, DC”, involving focus groups at inner city homeless shelters. It was at this point that she went to medical school at West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her intern year with UNECOM at Mercy Hospital and SMMC. She then came to MDFP. Outside of medicine, Isabella enjoys SCUBA diving, horseriding (eventing), foreign travel/languages, tennis, biking, gardening and adrenalin sports (skydiving) and spending time with her Jack Russell Terriers.
Megan Barker
University of Cincinnati College of Medicine
Megan was born in Ohio and completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Dayton. She went on to medical school at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, graduating in June of 2008. She then completed an MPH program at Wright State University. Her volunteer activites have been with Planned Parenthood and with a local rape crisis center; she was also a student leader of the Complementary and Alternative Medicine Interest group and the local AMWA chapter. In her spare time, she enjoys camping, canoeing, swimming and drawing.
Chris Johnston
University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine
Chris was born in Augusta, Maine and completed his undergraduate studies in mechanical engineering at the University of Maine, Orono. After work as a substitute teacher, a case worker for recent prison parolees, and an intern on an organic farm, he joined the Peace Corps and traveled to Togo where he volunteered as a school teacher and worked with local farmers to promote sustainable agriculture. Upon his return, he completed studies in homeopathy and worked with a physican in Oakland, Maine for two years before beginning medical school at UNE-COM. Chris worked as an anatomy and OMM teaching assistant at UNE, and he completed his third year core clerkships here at MDFMR. Outside of medicine, he enjoys hiking, poetry, music, photography and painting as well as a variety of athletic activities.
Xiaoqing "Lily" Li
Hengyang Medical College
Xiaoquing was born in China and completed her medical studies at Hengyang Medical College. She went on to graduate from a three year internal medicine residency, served an additional chief year, and then practiced as an attending gastroenterologist for 3 years. She subsequently moved to Canada where she was involved in clinical research about prostate cancer vaccination. Xiaoquing has more recently been working in externships with primary care physicians in both Canada and in Houlton, ME. She hopes to return to rural northern Maine to practice after residency. In her spare time she enjoys swimming, volleyball, hiking and cooking.
Michelle Mosher
University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine
Michelle was born in Rumford, Maine and completed her undergraduate studies in Sociology at Brandeis University. After college, she worked for the Boston Public Health Commission for three years managing federally funded community education grants. Michelle then returned to Maine to coordinate STD education and then rural health grants for the Department of Human Services in the office of Rural Health and Primary Care. During this time she also worked for a local food bank and as a Hospice volunteer. As a medical student at UNE-COM, Michelle volunteered at a local free clinic as a diabetes counselor; she completed her third year core clerkships at MDFMR. In her spare time, she raises dairy cows with her husband and enjoys cooking, travel and cross country skiing.
Suhas Pinnaka
Kasturba Medical College
Suhas is originally from India and completed his undergraduate and medical training at Kasturba Medical College. His original interest in medicine stemmed from his family's efforts to care for his two chronically ill sisters in the face of limited medical resources. After medical school, he completed a rotating internship and an additional year as a medical resident in India before moving to England. In the UK, he worked for almost two years as a house officer in medicine, pulmonology, urology and general practice. Suhas then returned to India where he has been working in the Medak Nursing Home for the past two years. Prior to coming to MDFMR, he has also been able to visit the US and complete externships in inpatient and outpatient medicine. Outside of medicine, Suhas enjoys reading, listening to music, exercising and practicing yoga.
Kernjeet "Keny" Sandhu
Windsor University
Kernjeet is originally from Canada. She completed her undergraduate studies in Physics at the University of Winnipeg and went on to study medicine at Windsor University in Saint Kitts West Indies. She graduated from medical school in 2006. Since that time, she has been involved with research in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago and has earned a certificate for the use of lasers in medical aesthetics. She also traveled to her family home in India to volunteer for three months in both urban and rural medical settings. In her spare time, she enjoys long distance running, swimming, knitting, and fashion design.
Amber Schmidt
University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine
Amber is originally from Lancaster, New Hampshire and completed her undergraduate studies in Biology at St. Joseph's College of Maine. She was involved in research in her senior year to quantify the rate of MRSA colonization of nursing students at St. Joseph's. Amber went on to medical school at UNE-COM where she worked as an OMM teaching assistant. Amber cites her close relationship with family and her tight-knit hometown community as important supports as she has pursued her medical training. She hopes to return as a family physician to rural Lancaster, NH after residency. Her outside interests include crafts and reading.
Mark Stevens
Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine
Mark was born in New Mexico and completed undergraduate studies in Biochemistry at the University of New Mexico. Prior to medical school he volunteered at a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center and worked as an inpatient nurse's aide. He pursued his medical training at Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is the recipient of an Armed Forces Health Professions scholarship through the Air Force and is a member of the Sigma Sigma Phi National Osteopathic Honor Society. In his spare time, he enjoys running, hiking, swimming, and spending time with family.
Bernadette Stevenson
Florida State University College of Medicine
Bernadette was born in Indiana and completed her undergraduate studies in nursing at Indiana University. After a 13 year nursing career, primarily as a clinical auditor, she went back to school for a Masters degree in nursing at the University of South Florida. As an advanced registered nurse practitioner, she worked for 8 years in clinical research and as a provider for a county health department prior to returning to medical school at Florida State University. Bernadette has ties to Maine in that her husband works as a Neurologist in Belfast. In her spare time, she enjoys tennis, running, sailing, and spending time with her family.
