Alumni

The Maine-Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency has been graduating physicians since 1975; there are just over 200 alumni of the program at last count. About half of graduates are in practice in the state of Maine and 60% are in rural locations somewhere in the United States. We are proud to be among the top residencies in the country in terms of rural placement of graduates!

While our founding mission is to prepare graduates for practice in a rural setting, our alumni feel able to practice anywhere – including international and urban locations.. Most work in family practice centers or groups, but several have solo practices, work at rural or community health centers, or serve in the Indian Health Service. We have had many graduates over the years with NHSC or military commitments. Maine-Dartmouth has also trained a number of physicians who work in emergency rooms or as locum tenems. Recently, several of our alums have formed a hospitalist service for other private family medicine groups in central Maine. Many graduates have an interest in teaching and have taken full time academic positions and others serve as part-time family medicine preceptors.

Residency “Foot print” for only Maine programs.
