Ms. Edelman is a board certified genetic counselor and project director at the National Coalition for Health Professional Education in Genetics (NCHPEG). Her work at NCHPEG focuses on the development of targeted education programs and clinical tools in genetics for healthcare providers, and includes projects in prenatal family history, neurology, colorectal cancer, and evaluation of genetics education. Prior to joining NCHPEG in 2009, Ms. Edelman was a genetic counselor at the Genomic Medicine Institute at Cleveland Clinic, where she had roles in cancer genetic counseling, cancer research, and family health history and personalized medicine initiatives.

Marcy Brenner is a performing musician, writer, breast cancer survivor/advocate and the subject of a documentary film entitled Dead Girl Walking. The film by Ray Schmitt of Real Earth Productions has won numerous awards including the Amazing Grace award at first BreastFest Film Festival in Toronto, Canada. Marcy was a presenter for the Walking in My Shoes panel session at the 25th Genetic Alliance Annual Conference in 2011 about the power and relevancy of sharing personal experience. She and her husband Lou Castro reside in Ocracoke Island, just off the coast of North Carolina's Outer Banks.

Dr. June C. Carroll holds the Sydney G. Frankfort Chair in Family Medicine and is an Associate Professor and Clinician Scientist in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at University of Toronto. She practices family medicine at the Granovsky Gluskin Family Medicine Centre at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto. Her research interests include knowledge translation and health service delivery with a focus on primary care genetics. She is involved in studies designing and evaluating educational tools for primary care providers and the public on topics related to genetic predisposition to common diseases. Dr. Carroll is a member of the Ontario Clinical Advisory Committee on Colorectal Cancer Screening, the Clinical Expert Panel on the Ontario Breast Screening Program expansion to women at high risk for breast cancer and the Prenatal Screening Subcommittee of the Ontario Provincial Maternal-Child Screening Committee. She is Co-Director of the GEC-KO project (Genetics Education Centre Knowledge for Ontario).


Jeffrey Dunn, MD, MBA, FACS

Dr. Dunn is the President of the National Council, and a member of the Trustees of The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, Maine. He is the Executive Vice President, Chief Medical Officer, and founding partner of MediQLogix, providing quality and safety software solutions for hospitals and physicians.

Prior to working with MediQlogix, Dr. Dunn was national Senior Medical Director for VHA Clinical Performance focusing on hospital clinical performance improvement, and physician, administration, and board leadership for member hospitals. He served as National Medical director for VHA’s nationally acknowledged Intensive Care Collaborative, and was National Medical Director for VHA’s Surgical Quality Improvement Collaborative which he helped design and initiate.

From 2000 to 2004, Dr. Dunn was Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Meridian Health, a large multi-hospital system on the east coast. He also served as President of one of that system’s hospitals. He was responsible for quality and clinical performance, strategic growth and physician development. He designed and implemented clinical service lines, driving clinical, financial and quality improvement. He lead the system’s entry into an approved CMS demonstration Gain Sharing Program. During his tenure at Meridian, Dr. Dunn led the successful effort to attain University Hospital accreditation for its flagship hospital and Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine.


Wm. Gregory Feero, MD, PhD

Dr. Feero obtained his M.D./Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine with a Ph.D. in Human Genetics. He then completed his residency in Family Medicine at the Maine-Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency Program in Augusta, Maine. After five years in practice in Maine, Dr. Feero accepted a position at the National Human Genome Research Institute, National Institutes of Health, where he is a Special Advisor to the Director for Genomic Medicine. Dr. Feero sees patients at the Maine - Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency, where he is on faculty. Dr. Feero is board certified in family medicine and holds licenses in Maine and West Virginia. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed and invited publications.


Andrew Hertler, MD, FACP

Andrew A. Hertler, MD, FACP is a medical oncologist and hematologist with a clinical focus and interest in general medical oncology, clinical trials (experimental protocols and evaluation of new therapies) and research aimed at development of "Best Practices in Community Cancer Programs." He serves as medical director of MaineGeneral’s Physician Practices and Oncology Services and has practiced in central Maine since 1996.

Dr. Hertler received his medical degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI and completed his internship and residency at University of Michigan Affiliated Hospitals. He later completed medical oncology and hematology fellowships at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC.

Dr. Hertler is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and currently serves as a member of ASCO’s “Quality Oncology Certification Program Oversight Council”. He has served as President of the Northern New England Clinical Oncology Society and remains active on their board of directors as well as serving on the board of directors of the Maine Cancer Foundation.

Edison Liu, M.D., an international leader in cancer biology, genomics, human genetics and molecular epidemiology, is the new president and CEO of The Jackson Laboratory. Dr. Liu was the founding executive director of the Genome Institute of Singapore, building it in less than 10 years from a staff of three into a major research institute of 27 laboratory groups and a staff of 270. Before moving to Singapore in 2001, Dr. Liu was the scientific director of the National Cancer Institute’s Division of Clinical Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland.

Kristen Shannon is the Program Manager and Senior Genetic Counselor at the Mass General Hospital Cancer Center's Center for Cancer Risk Assessment. She has been a practicing genetic counselor, focusing on counseling for inherited cancer syndromes for over 15 years. Her research interests include the genetic basis of multi-cancer families as well as the provision of clinical genetic counseling services. She is involved in studies designing and evaluating clinical models of providing genetic counseling and testing at the time of cancer diagnosis. She has published widely - including various peer- reviewed manuscripts, review articles and book chapters. Ms. Shannon is very active in the National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC), serves on NSGC committees that are dedicated to public policy issues, and was very active in establishing licensure for genetic counselors in MA - currently serving as Secretary of the Genetic Counselor Licensure Board.

Currently, Dr. Miesfeldt serves as the Medical Director for the Cancer Risk and Prevention Program at Maine Medical Center. She has authored several book chapters and many peer-reviewed articles, in addition to internet and video educational tools. Dr. Miesfeldt has been awarded several research grants and is the recipient of an MMC RSP Clinician-Scientist Grant to study cancer screening/early detection and prevention services to high risk and underserved populations.


Barbara Moss, DO, MPH

Dr Moss is the Director of Osteopathic Medical Education at the Maine-Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency in Augusta, Maine and she is a member of the residency's core faculty. Dr. Moss practices the full scope of osteopathic family medicine, integrating manipulation into her clinical practice which also includes obstetrics and hospital medicine.

As an artist, Paige has had numerous shows in Maine, California and New York, where she is represented by the Gerald Peters Gallery. The Guild Hall Academy of the Arts in East Hampton has honored her with a lifetime membership.

As an illustrator, she has co-authored (with Christopher Cerf) the best-selling book "Blackie, The Horse Who Stood Still" and recently created the striking images for the e-book of an updated version of "A Christmas Carol." At Welcome Books, she is a Vice President and co-director of an imprint, Cerf & Peterson.

As an advocate for cancer research, she is a Senior Vice President of the Huntsman Cancer Foundation. She speaks on The Power of Attitudinal Healing through the Huntsman Cancer Institute and Attitudinal Healing International.


N. Jewel Samadder, MD, MSc, FRCPC

N. Jewel Samadder, MD, MSc, FRCPC is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Utah and an Investigator at the Huntsman Cancer Institute.

Dr. Samadder received his medical degree from the University of Toronto (Canada) where he also completed his internal medicine residency. He subsequently completed a fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, MI) and an Advanced Endoscopy fellowship at the Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN). During his gastroenterology fellowship, Dr. Samadder also completed his Master's in Healthcare Research at the University of Michigan Medical School and obtained specialized training in Cancer Genetics at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center under the mentorship of Dr. Stephen Gruber. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons in Canada.

His research focuses on the genetic epidemiology and outcomes of patients with hereditary colorectal and pancreatic cancer.

Dr. Samadder has published and presented at national meetings on the increased risk of colorectal cancer associated with various genetic, lifestyle factors and chronic diseases and opportunities for chemoprevention.

Dr. Samadder's special interests are in the areas of hereditary gastrointestinal cancer and endoscopic oncology. He performs both general and therapeutic endoscopy (including EUS, ERCP and small bowel Balloon Enteroscopy).
