August 13th, 2002 Annual Work Retreat

For the tenth year, MDFPR faculty and residents spent a Tuesday afternoon doing volunteer "fix-up" work at a local community service site. This year we were at the Family Violence Project Shelter in Augusta, where we painted a porch, removed some brush and trees and did some interior carpentry and painting.
The activity, coordinated by Fred Craigie, our clinical psychologist, and Dan Meyer, our medical sociologist, lets us take a look at places which serve our patients (for example, we have done similar work at "social clubs" and halfway houses in Augusta and Waterville). The photos on this page show the 20 residents and 6 faculty folks in action, including our esteemed director, Jim Schneid and a visiting medical student. A list of sites for the retreats since 1993 is below.
